Meet Graduate Students in CACS

Ahmed

"You must enroll for MS or Ph.D. to know what CACS mean; you have to graduate to know what the value of CACS is!" --Ahmed

Adam

Adam Wade Lewis is currently a Ph.D. candidate at CACS in University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He received a B.A. degree in Mathematics and a B.A. degree in Theatre from the The University of the South in 1986 and a M.S. degree in Computer Science from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 1989. His background includes many years of experience in the retail information technology and network engineering fields as a software developer, business analyst, and project manager for NCR Corporation throughout the world. He is a member of the ACM and the IEEE Computer Society. Adam's research interests are in the areas of high-performance computer systems, low-power system design, and operating system and compiler support for development of embedded systems.

Adam says: "My career path is unusual amongst graduate students as I returned to academia as a full-time student after a long period in industry. This is a career choice that both the CACS faculty and University administration is very supportive of students attempting. I had the opportunity to attend two other very good graduate programs in Computer Science but I came to CACS because of the support and opportunities the program provides for all of their students."

Unni

Unni Chandran comes from Kerala, a state located in southwestern India. He received his B.E (Electronics) from MNIT Jaipur in 2002 and MS (Computer Engineering) from UL Lafayette in 2008 respectively. He is currently working on his PhD in Computer Engineering at CACS. His dissertation focuses on design-for-test challenges in high performance integrated circuits. He is also interested in computer architecture, VLSI design automation and combinatorial optimization.

Unni has worked as a test engineer at HFCL India, where he was in charge of fault detection and diagnosis of telephone exchange switch baords. He also worked as a co-op in microprocessor verification group at Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) Austin, Texas.

In his leisure time, he plays raquetball and ping-pong. Despite having two left feet, Unni works very hard on his cajun dance skills.

"My department has world renowned faculty members who inspire students to pursue excellence. All the professors are very warm, approachable and encouraging. Graduate courses offered by CACS focus on fundamentals and state-of-the-art in technology, thus providing us with the skills and confidence to attack workplace challenges. Success of our alumni attests to this fact. In addition, the plethora of social events with their distinctively cajun flavor makes CACS a very attractive destination. " --Unni

Ting

Ting Ning is currently a 2nd year Ph.D. student at CACS in University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She received a B.S. degree and a M.S. degree in Computer Science from the The Lanzhou University in China in 2005 and 2008, respectively. Ting's research interests are in the areas of wireless networks, especially in delay-tolerant-networks.

Ting says: "Joining CACS is really a big step in my life. I benefit a lot from the academic environment that CACS provides during the past one and a half years. Those courses I've taken broadened my view of computer science and the way my advisor trained me made me become a problem-solver in the real world."

Itthichok

Itthichok Jangjaimon was born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand, where he completed his undergraduate education in Computer Engineering from Kasetsart University, with a B.E. degree in 2004. For the next two years, he applied his knowledge and skills to field applications. At the Thai National Grid Center, Itthichok was responsible for Grid infrastructure establishment, which afterward supported hundreds of high-performance scientific research sites in Thailand. In 2008, he completed a Master’s degree and is continuing for his doctoral training at UL-Lafayette. His research interest includes peer-to-peer systems, network coding, and distributed systems.

Itthichok says: "CACS faculties always encourage students to pursue their academic excellence. In addition, CACS provides friendly environment, giving students their lifetime partner."

Jamie

Jamie Mason is a Master's degree student at CACS. She's from Carencro, Louisiana, and received her Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from UL Lafayette in 2008. She chose CACS because of its reputation and value. To her, CACS is about stretching your horizons and learning your capabilities through studies and research with dedicated faculty and other students.

"We work hard, but we also play hard," she says. The Acadiana area's numerous festivals, restaurants, and cultural events make it a great place to live while you study. "Looking back, I wouldn't choose to go to any other graduate school," she says. "CACS is like home to me."

Jason

"CACS is a place to expand your scientific knowledge, personality, and skills. The faculty, staff, and students are friendly and want to help." --Jason

Yi

"As a 4th year Ph.D. student, studying at CACS composes a considerable portion of my life experience. Here, like in a big family, I can seek all kinds of help from the faculty and colleagues. From project to project, I'm building up the confidence to pursuit the success in the future." -Yi

Zhipeng

"I am a 3rd year Ph.D. student in CACS. My experience so far is very positive. The faculty are topnotch. They provide incredible resources to help me learn all about real world experiences and work on cutting-edge research areas." --Zhipeng
