Dr. Khalid Elgazzar joined CACS

Dr. Khalid Elgazzar joined the Center of Advanced Computer Studies at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette as an assistant professor in August 2016. Before joining CACS, he was an NSERC postdoctoral fellow at Carnegie Mellon School of Computer Science. He received his PhD in Computer Science in 2013 from the School of Computing at Queen's University in Canada. Dr. Elgazzar received the prestigious NSERC PDF award (2015-2017) from the Canadian Government and the 2014 distinguished research award from Queen's University. He also received several recognition and best paper award at top international venues.

Dr. Elgazzar has more than eight years of industrial experience in software design and developments and more than 10 years of experience in interdisciplinary academic teaching and research. His research interests span the areas of mobile and ubiquitous computing, context-aware systems, Internet of Things, and elastic networking paradigm. He is interested in unlocking the potential of mobile devices to advance the way users carry out their everyday business. His doctoral thesis investigates reliable service provisioning from mobile devices. He developed frameworks and techniques that render mobile users active data participants, not only consumers using their devices. His frameworks lay the foundation of a whole new collaborative computing paradigm for resource-constrained computing devices. He also introduced a distributed architecture that takes advantage of cloud computing to bridge the gap between limited resources of mobile environments and the growing resource demands of mobile applications. Dr. Elgazzar is currently leading a team to create the next generation of IoT open stack, getting every device onboard to bring the future even closer.
